Dear Mr. Nath,
I have news that will make you relieved and happy. I am officially tendering my resignation and intend to leave OIC by the end of October. My only pending items are some CQI projects (which are mostly manual items and 5s). I know that this is too sudden but I am committing my weekends til November in case i don't finish everything. I've noticed that aside from the 5s project you assigned me, i have no other responsibility at OIC anymore. I feel that my work is done already and it's time that the others take charge. Frankly, others have been managing easily without me. I have also done the minor part of convincing anybody who's thinking of leaving OIC to stay, ever since i surpassed my first event. I'd like to think that i'd helped in keeping the core team together.I will miss OIC as it has been a huge part of my life for 4 years now. I also kinda miss the old Mr. Nath that I know the first time i joined the team- very strict, very perfectionist, control freak, not too personal with the staff, harsh but just being true to the nature of oneself. I want you to know that your way of training has contributed a lot to my growth. I am leaving with a grateful heart. And I am taking only the good memories and learnings with me. Please also accept my sincere apologies for all the inconvenience that i have caused.

Dear xxx (aka ME),
Well written and well said. Thank you for your thoughtful note.
Except for one thing. I am sad and not relieved. As you know, I always say what should be said or what I feel fairly directly - but of course with some discretion. And if I wanted you to go, I'd have talked to you.
But I want you to stay and that is what I keep saying. Even now, you can change your mind.
All I know is that you have a LOT of talent, skills and good sense. It is because I see what you are capable of that I cannot stand you not reaching and doing and working at the level you are capable of.
Its not just you, my "crusade" is for the budding young professionals in the Philippines - with no real chance in catching up with the middle class Singaporean or even Thai - because you deserve the opportunity. An opportunity our politicians rob us of.
But I can only do so much and try with OIC. I too apologize for all the "inconvenience" that I have caused, for being a control freak - which I am hoping to shed soon - and for not being able to convince you that you have a great future here.
Still I understand. Let's talk tomorrow (technically today). I know that if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything. The OIC doors remain open to you in the future as do my personal goodwill, contacts and assistance if you should ever need.

world-class what?

the GOE often brags about his world-class standards. i can only think about his flawed system.
- the office environment is not a world-class environment at all
- anybody can be late or absent from work
- what? no memos?
- no room for growth at all

how could i have missed this?!

How does the mighty GOE really think? Care to probe into his mind view about life? His basic presumption is that people and things do not change unless something dramatic happens. Hmm, no wonder..Once an evil, always an evil:(

A Philosophical Note on what we know will happen …

We know that:
The sun rose today, and we can count on it that it will rise again tomorrow. That is so long as the earth revolves around its axis and nothing dramatic happens that knocks it off its axis

People are born, they will grow and develop and then there is decay and death. This happens so long as HE wants it that way and HE does not dramatically decide to change the cycle of life.

Rivers will flow to the sea, water will evaporate from the sea and fall as rain on the mountains and give water to the rivers that flow back to the sea. As long as the ecological balance is left intact and we don’t dramatically blast the entire mountain range and reduce it to rubble.

A rose will be a rose, wherever planted, in what ever soil will always look nice and smell sweet. Until it is genetically altered dramatically.

The laws of gravity prevail and dictate that what is thrown up will come down. Until we find a dramatic solution of the airplane or sending flights to the weightlessness of outer space.

Experience tells us that:
The greed of man cannot be satisfied and becomes even greedier after the greed is satisfied. The lust for power or money becomes greater after power (or money) is acquired, not less. Until something dramatic happens, such as a personal awakening, a death, a coup or a revolution.

Romantics will be romantics: Those who fall in love easily, after they are hurt once, will fall in love easily again and be hurt again. Until something dramatic, such as a knight (or damsel) in shining armor comes along.

Good presenters will remain good. Until something dramatic happens that makes them change.
Reliable people remain reliable: They are like rocks. Until something happens such as acquiring an alcoholic addiction or falls in love (bewitched) by the wrong person.

The hard and harsh can be counted on to be hard and harsh again. Until something really dramatic and life changing happens.

Those who are overweight will likely be always overweight - they may lose weight but will likely put it on again unless a dramatic change is made in their lifestyle and attitude toward food.

Those who gamble (for love or money) will gamble again and again. Until they are really hurt hard and big. And even then there is no assurance.

Those who are late for work will likely be late for work again. They may improve for a while, but they will be late again. Until they make a dramatic change in their outlook.

Those who forget things to do, are likely to forget things to do. Until they develop a system, stick to the system and change their outlook about forgetting.

Those who make mistakes are likely to make mistakes and we can count on this. Until they make a dramatic change in their outlook and in their system.

Those who are erratic can be counted to be erratic. They blow hot today / cold tomorrow, nice today / grouchy tomorrow, delivers today / goofs tomorrow. Until they dramatically decide which they really want to be. Reliable and pleasant or unreliable and grouchy.

If you try a system, supplier or other new it is almost certain there will be problems. If you have a new hotel the likelihood of problems occurring is still almost certain, no matter how many hotels you have dealt with. Unless we take dramatic steps to realize and prepare.

Those who fail to give feedback are the ones most likely to fail to give feedback. Unless they realize it is a disease and do something to dramatically alter their outlook on feedback.

Those who tend to be dishonest will always tend to be so. Its like a smoker, gambler or alcoholic – they can’t help it. Until something dramatic happens – such as my alcoholic friend that killed a child driving drunk – or until they completely change their definition of what is dishonest.

Lessons:
The natural tendency of the world is for things to repeat. Life, nature and people are CONSISTENT and predictable. If you put a snake inside a bamboo, it will still wiggle.
These repeating things will not change for better or for worse on their own.
Changing them is NOT easy. It requires a dramatic change.

Reminders:
A) If you had a problem with dele list, payments, pre con, bag delivery, speaker materials, wrong understanding about Expo size, sponsor with incomplete info or whatever, forgot chargers etc, the chances are that it will recur. There is little hope that it will NOT recur, unless you take a different route than the one you took before.

B) If someone likes you a lot, or is not kind to you, or does not respond to your feelings, or cant take no for an answer, or keeps misunderstanding you, chances are he or she will NOT change.

That’s life. That’s Kharma. And it's good. Enjoy life.

YOU can also do something about it. The POWER is within YOU.

That’s why the lines on your left hand tell you what you are born for and the lines on your right hand, tell you what YOU are making your life to be.
